ML7 cross and top slide threads?

I am just too hot to venture into my shed, which must be like an oven. Otherwise I would measure up the required thread!

Google and my library don't seem to help either. I am after the imperial threads, definitely acme but what pitch and diameter?

I shall probably need to buy or make some replacements, when I am able to get mobile again after my latest attack of sciatica!

Well, I would go into my hot workshop, run around, and measure up for you, but I'm glued to an armchair at the moment!!

But remember that they will be Left Hand, possibly ACME or square thread form, so that the slide advances when the handle is turned clockwise.

I hope to God they’re NOT left hand. Otherwise they would work in reverse !!!!
And there’s no ‘possible’ about it. They are Acme form.

Rick, If the thread were right hand, as the handle is turned clockwise, you would withdraw the tool from the work.

(I have made a new nut for a Raglan Cross Slide, so know that the thread is left hand.

But we do agree over the thread form!

ML7 top and cross slide feed screws are RIGHT HAND ! The nut is stationary and the RIGHT HAND feed screw pulls toward the nut moving the slide forward. If it was Left hand it would back the slide off when rotated clockwise. I’ve machined new screws and nuts for six ML7 lathes in recent years. The LEADSCREW is Left hand, were it not clockwise rotation would drive the carriage toward the tailstock, not the headstock. Have a think about it.

I will add this to assist the thought process. ML7 top and cross feed screws ride with the slide. A left hand thread needs to be used where the slide feed nut rides with the slide. ML7 ‘s have a nut captive on the carriage and the topslide base. Therefore, a Right hand thread needs to be used.

Quite right Rik, memory failure, (The ML7 went some 14 years ago. But you have reawakened memories of fitting a new nut to the Cross slide)
