According to L C Mason Reeves used to keep suitable cable for the Minnie, but they do not now.

Any suggestions as to what cable to get.

It seems, according to Mason, I need about 7 yards. Is that correct.

      Many thanks to all

Any of the clock material companies. A long case clock uses 21 feet. A Vienna regulator will use less

Possibly model aircraft shops. Tethered flight etc

I've used these people a few times. The 7×7 stainless will wrap around the drum OK.

They also do 1.5mm thimbles if you don't fancy making your own.

Thank you both for your suggestions.

Jason, I have had a look at the web site there is under the 7×7 very many thicknesses. Would you suggest the 1mm or thinner.

Equally not sure if they sell by the meter or by spacific drum lengths.

Yeas the 1.5mm thimbles might be a very good idea.

Very best and thank you both again

Google "stainless steel trace wire" and you may find something suitable.

Just measured my Reeves supplied cable at 1.48mm so the 1.5mm from tecni-cable will be fine. Quantities in the box are for 1m @ 41p per mtr. for the 7×7 strand or 76p per mtr for the even more flexible 7×19 strand

Bicycle brake or gear selector cable? The gear selector stuff is thinner. My locol bike shop sells it by the yard

It is a 1/12 scale model so I think 1.5mm would scale to a sensible size but go for the finer strand version as a full size cable with only 7 strands wold look a little clunky.

Bazyle, they don't do a 7 strand, the 7×7 has 49 strands and the 7×19 has 133 strands. They also do a 19 strand but that is not very flexible which is why I did no suggest that because it will be like a spring wound around the 3" dia drum.

I recently purchased a length of cable for my I” Minnie from Blackgates Engineering. It is 1.5mm in diameter, very supple and will do nicely. I can’t remember the cost, but certainly not worth haggling about.

My thinking behind trace wire, it is very flexible. Full size cables would have dozens and dozens of strands.

Yet again very, very many thanks to everyobne for your input.

I have gone with Jason's suggestion and am using Techni-Cable,. In conversation with them I was impressed by how very helphul they were. As suggested by Jason I have also bought the thimple from them.

As a passing comment I am just so impressed with how helpful everyone is. Alas I seem to have a steady stream of question and problems and evey time i seek help i get an instant helpful response.

A big thank you best wishes
