Mini lathe fitting

Hi to all.

Can anyone tell me what this fitting is for please? It was on the lathe compound slide when I bought it about 18 months ago. Every one of these lathes I've seen hasn't had this on it and there's no mention of it in the user guide. Its a CJ18A lathe.

The bracket for the perspex chip guard fits into it

It's a pencil holder.

The perspex guard is on the headstock,, ( or would be if I fitted it). Pencil holder? Mmm not very likely.

It has three little slots, for what looks like three positions of some tool or other.

I got two plastic bags with the lathe which I never opened, I just checked them and one had the chip guard in it.
