Long hours more plumbing

Been putting in some long hours in on my Black 5 i have been altering the way i feed water into the boiler.

I have made separate feeds to hand pump axle pump injector.

I had been having problems feeding back through the clacks back into tender.

I used to have hand pump and axle pump fed from same feed it just was not successful.

Each has its own clack so can see at a glance any problems i had to use a plug that was blanking of where blower used to fit till i made an outside one to feed into smoke box.

Now the hand pump feeds to the rear of boiler and axle pump feeds direct to top of boiler same as injector does.

Just need to try and make sure all is ok then fingers crossed law of averages got to get it right some time I hope

Well disappointed again built pressure up on Air but the brand new online Clack is still not sealing it's blowing back to the Tender.

Will it ever end

Ask the suppliers to test them on air before they send them to you.

I have had them changed very surprised not sealing.

I am wondering if their are other types been told to use ones with o rings but never seen any

I must be psychic !

Without even knowing of Ron's problems with leaking clack valves I suggested to him that any future valves should be of the design that uses an O- ring as the sealing face for the valve to seat onto.

Perhaps someone could sketch out the layout to show him what to make, either at the club, or on this site.

Unfortunately my IT skills to do not extend to doing that !

You could try nitrile balls in the existing leaking clacks. I have a design for o-ring sealed clacks, but if you've already got the bodies nitrile balls is easiest. This link might get you to a supplier

I test bought fittings before using them, I make an adaptor to go on a bike pump and just blow air in with the fitting under water. Blowing by mouth doesn't always work, they seem to need a bit of pressure to seal. If they don't seal I send them back

I now have six 1/4 inline Clacks mounted vertical two work the rest as soon as they reach 40 psi they leak. I had two changed but still have 4 not sealing very disappointed.

I have experienced this many times on my own engines and on other members engines. The best solution I have found is to use a PTFE seat on which the ball sits. I usually make this a push fit in the fitting and it works every time and does not stick even when the loco is stored for sometime i.e. over winter.
