I have been trying to find a supplier of micro carbide boring bars and holders that actually quote the price of how much they cost to purchase for a project I am working on.

      Can any one help.

How small diameter and how deep have you got to go?

Have a look at MSC they do the Iscar Piccocut mini bars and holders, about £25 a bar and £90 a holder +VAT, page 490 of online catalogue

I’ve made my own holders. Very easy on the round shank type, the “lozenge” shape type, just takes a bit more effort.

You still haven't said what you mean by "small". It's all relative – ask any woman.

These ones are available down to 1mm hole dia and up to 10mm.

Korloy do a system that is available down to 8mm.

PS – Old School – thanks for the ProTools link – that's a new one on me and looks pretty interesting.

                        Hi,

The question is not just what diameter bore but also what depth? Some details on that will make a suggestion much easier.

For up to 12x diameter long bores of Ø4.9mm and up I've been using some kennametal products. The inserts are proprietary so not cheap but they have sizes from a shank of 4mm,5mm, 6mm that all use the same tips. I've got the solid carbide shank bars second hand and got the tips from fg metcalfe and son. All the major vendors have their own range for this type of thing.

For below Ø4.9mm I've been using some of the Carmex "tiny tools". Same as Old School's reference supplies.

                        Steve

I need to make a bushing the ID is 10mm the OD is 15mm the measurements are critical. Its in stainless steel.

HSS should be suitable for turning the bushing. Inexpensive boring bars are listed on ebay or grind your own from a piece of HSS bar.

                            Paul.

If the hole is 10mm then you hardly need a micro bar, I've got a couple of bars that take CCMT inserts that will fit in there no problem.

You have not given the length but these would reach a lot further than a Micro bar would

The material that comes supplied for the job has a 4mm bore so I have to machine it out to 10mm ID. The outside diameter is 18 mm and that has to be reduced to 15mm. I think i am sorted now I have invested in Iscar PICCO .

I have purchased a holder and several samples of the miniature boring bars. Thanks.

The work piece is approx 12mm in length.

The 10mm ID hole has to also be 10mm in depth with a stop at the end its not a through hole. The last 2mm retains the original 4mm bore. The whole thing has to be 12mm in length and 15mm OD. All dimensions are critical.

I think I have got it sussed now thanks for the input.
