I’m new to model engineering and I’ve acquired a 5 inch gauge 2-8-0 steam locomotive.  It recently failed a steam test due to 1 injector of 2 not working. There was also small leak on a thread through the firebox which holds the firebox door lock. I’m wondering what people use for sealing such leaks. There seems to be several available but i want to know the best one.

Wasnt your boiler inspector very helpful on this front???

Welcome Simon. Like you I bought a 5″ loco but was lucky. Join a club near you and see what the boiler inspector says. The injector should be a simple fix and may only need cleaning with citric acid. The thread, high temp loctite may work. Rather depends on circumstances as to how to fix. There’s plenty of help to be found here. Best wishes and good fortune. Noel.
