      Hi Alan

The usual brackets in your post — as in :- ( what`s new you say! ) —. came out as expected and the "Pointy" ones <like this> did too

      Cunning these Norwegians!.

      PS

I too am sometimes concerned about the amount of "stuff" I've accumulated, ( But it always seems too potentially useful to ditch)

Michael and Alan were referring to the symbols ] and [ as brackets (quite correctly, I suspect). Those must be the ones missing on the Norwegian keyboard.

The stupid auto-smiley feature (spit) seems to react to things like semicolon-end parenthesis, They are an idiotic feature and some web designer deserves to be strung up by the wotsits. You can IIRC be avoided by putting a space between the two characters. I'll check here ; )

         Yes, worked.

          David,

The web designer who invented those smiley faces was probably some poor soul that was always afraid that people, especially his wife, would misunderstand his pathetic jokes. I`ve never been an advocate of capital punishment but perhaps it`s deserved in this case.

            Hi Alan,

strange that you can not get brackets – [ ] – on your norwegian keyboard. No to trouble to get them on mine (Alt Gr + 8 or Alt Gr + 9). Another possibility is to hold down the Alt key and type 091 ( or 093) on the number keypad.

            Regards

            Thor

Just to get the thread back on topic…

I don't give a TOS about Norwegian keyboards, peculiarities of brackets, or peoples' preferences with regard to smileys. smiley

Steady on Tony! sounds a bit zenophobic to me! Don`t upset our Norwegian friends as they may shut off our gas supply and it won`t just be cold in the shed, as you`ll be watching the soaps with an icicle on the end of your nose!

Are you referring to the ever expanding and shrinking TOS that is owned by one of our super contributors?

The only way to get the thread back onto track is to take it into your own hands and amaze us with a super post, so that we forget what has already gone on. ( scowling smiley ).

                  Thor,

I think Alan's point is that a UK keyboard actuallh has keys with [ and ] on them. We don't have all those fun circles, accents and umlauts everyone else seems to need. No problem until we post messages about heavy metal bands…

                  Alan,

I thought TOS was Eastern European? I suspect our erstwhile friend was concerned people would start talking about Pratt Burnerd etc. instyead of just giving an opuionion on the relative merits of the cheapies?

FWIW my two chucks are a standard mini-lathe 3-jaw (which is surprisingly accurate!) and a Chester-branded 4-jaw independent which doesn't seem to be quite as smooth in its action, but works fine.

I fancy getting a 100mm 3-jaw for my mini lathe. Some useful advice here.

TOS is Czech product, also Czech is in East Europe.

I has used the TOS Trenčín lathe at Upper secondary school in 1986-88, sturdy and good lathe.

                    Alan Smith 6…

The Burnerd chucks is not available in Norway. The Burnerd chucks is often mounted at Myford lathes who was sold in Norway. We has some dealer who is importing the TOS chuck, ask Albert E.Olsen (google it..) about they can order the TOS chuck for you. Better to buy from UK due cheap lathe equipments + customer fee.

I`ve just bought a Dore-Westbury Mk1 mill that I hope can be refurbished but that will be another thread.

It`s nice to see that our Norwegian friends are throwing themselves into the hurly burly of our Forum. You are very welcome as long as you support my point of view!

However, for the record, Czeck out the last line of the description (see what I did there?).

                                                    Chris and Tony,

                                                    It takes two to conspire!

Whatever the majority believes is right you say! What is written down in a catalogue is not real proof of the origin of the items or parts of the items. The company may not wish to divulge that production of parts of their products are made elsewhere, just like Pratt Burnerd! I don`t have time to trawl through the PB catalogue at the moment but i`m sure that you do.

Chris you were the one that mentioned "conspiracy theory"! It never occurred to me.

                                                    ( Doubtful smiley )

                                                    Alan

Tony, What happened to that insider information that you were going to present! Don`t just lash onto what Chris posts!

TOS Kurim is now a subsidiary of the Alta Group in the Czech Republic, along with Skoda Machine Tools (not Skoda cars, which is owned by VAG) and other companies . TOS certainly seems to make machinery and tooling, though it is always possible that some work is outsourced to manufacturers in other countries.
