My wife went shopping on Friday with her sister. Just found out that she purchased some rabbit proof cables for charging the I-pad and Kindle.

Now call me a cynic but I am pretty sure that in all the 32 years I have lived in this house I have never seen a rabbit. Maybe there is something I don't know. Has anyone else heard about a likely cable eating rabbit invasion in the Northants area ? angry 2

Anyone ever seen a USB charging point in a field that needed protection from a rabbit.attack ?

OR maybe its the other kind of rabbit and she is going to stop talking. (reminder to self – hide this post)

Bit of a dubious selling point in my opinion.

It's easier to just let them chew a 240V wire, they only tend to do it the oncewink 2

Or she is getting ready to purchase a house rabbit (or two)? For some reason they find electrical and telephone cables irresistible.

We had house rabbits through the winter as children circa 1970. They lived outside through the summer, but it was cold and nasty out there in the winter. For some reason they loved biting through live cables of stuff round the house, and I got several significant wallops off the mains checking for faulty cables. Including one very nasty experience with one hand earthed, the other hand found the exposed live. But I've lived to tell the tale.

Never did solve the riddle how a rabbit can bite through a live wire without apparent damage (to the rabbit) and not learn the error of its ways.

As Brian says, for some reason they seemed to find biting cables irresistible.

Hope your earth leakage trip is working…….

I dont know about rabbits but squirrels chew through cables for sure, including car wiring.

I have two Irish Red Setter dogs, now 8 years old. When they were young they went through mobile phone chargers, main line phones, hair driers [plugged in ] and a fan heater, also plugged in,and working, and they are still here ! Dont ask me how !

I remember years ago that in the works I was employed [sometimes I even worked there ] the power cables were eaten by rats and resulted in bringing the entire machine shop to a halt. Whatever material was in the cables was to their fancy. The result was that the entire cable system had to be replaced. As my Mother used to say "There,s no accounting for taste"

Back in the 70s before RCD protection when there was just a fuse. I had a Dachsund that chewed through the power cable to my Mums Hoover. I can remember the yelp but It only did it once. It survived with no problems at all.

Rabbit proof cables for charging indoor stuff wouldn’t it be better and cheaper to put it all out of reach?

Bet you'd forgotten that the 22nd Panzer Division was crippled at Stalingrad because mice had chewed the insulation on their tanks' wiring looms… devil

Not up on the problems the 22nd Panzers had at Stalingrad or charging a Rabbit from Ann Summers (though a lad I know did have one for his girlfriend, he called it Thumper!) – but a rabbit in the pot, with a few onions, carrots, garlic and red wine, simmered for a while, with some mash, lovely…………

Where I used to shoot on a farm they had a grist mill and other machines on 3 phase. I noticed that the wire (3 phase) was bare running along a beam, luckily it was dead. checked all the wiring and found many yards of of it bare. Having access to some spare armoured cable I replaced it all so everything worked again. Came back about a week later and all the PVC sheathing was gone off of the armoured cable. Looking at the droppings from the rats you could see the different colours of the three wires of the inner wires they had eaten. They seem to be able to eat it without effect.

                                            "What's your hobby?"

                                            "I teach rabbits to hop."

I nearly got killed by a house rabbit too. It got in my workshop and peed on a socket strip. Ow.

Quite quickly became a garden rabbit.

When we moved into out house a stinky sofa was left in the front room. When I moved it there was a rabbit midden behind it. There were also non-matching patches on the walls where they had been painted but not behind hung pictures and a plague of mice. You wouldn't credit it

                                            N.
