Hydrostatic test pump designs or kits?

I’m interested in a small pump for hydrostatic testing and while I can see they’re available from several sources I thought it might be an interesting project which should be within my capabilities. I am aware of the Macc Models kits, but can anyone tell me if there are any other designs or kits available? I’ve done some searches but not found anything particularly promising – but might not have been looking in the right place.

Last year I had the same urge to build a simple hydrostatic rig. However I found a complete unit from Vevor for silly money. I think it was £14 delivered. Turned out to be an excellent piece of kit. The only mod I made, was to fit a decent quality non return valve, although the existing one worked without leakage.

There was no way I could even buy the necessary materials for £14. The time saved was put to good use building a spark erosion machine.

Perhaps you can re-engineer the operating handle if it does not give fine enough control.

It would be prudent to verify the pressure gauge on anything you make – if a second and third opinion agree with it, it won’t be far out.

But, as Andrew wrote above, if you simply want to pressure test ‘something’, this has to be the best solution .

The pressure gauge isn’t fantastic – it under-reads by about 10% at ~120 psi, but the pump itself works fine.
