I tinned the platework and back of the beading and then used small rivits just like the fulll size. Sweated it together and filed the rivits off flush to the bead. You should just be able to see the rivits on this photo. On the smaller Minnie in my avitar I just used teh solder, working along the bead with a big soldering iron and several small bulldog clips to hold things in place.

            hi nigel,

the last bit of beading i did was with ARAX 96S 'soft' solder but is much stronger. i have a particular aversion to ordinary soft soldered bits on tenders and cabs such as beading. alhough not supposed to require additional flux i added bakers fluid which made it run beautifully. it was held in position by wooden clothes pegs. ok the clothes pegs got thrown away as a bit charred but saved lots of time drilling miniscule holes for rivets.

the beading was half round on the outside edge of my current build 5"g terrier STEPNEY bunker

            cheers,

            julian

Half round you can buy easily enough.

On the tender above Fowlers used a flatter profile more like the steel you see on some handrails/low fencing. I just use 1/4" flat stock clamped either end to a bit of iron and filed the profile, did not take long and I only needed about 3ft total.

If you don't fancy filing have a look at this page which shows a way to do it my machine. though may get a bit whippy if you only want 1/8 beadingsmile o
