How do I trace a Tool Registered Number?

Hi All,

Bought a very uusual beading tool at auction last Friday that was described as possibly being by Edward Preston. I am pretty sure it is NOT by him but the only marks on the tool are Rd 181534 (short for Registered I guess)

Just wondered if anyone had a magic way of tracing this number down, have tried Google etc to no avail?

No magic from me, I fear but I did check Salaman's Dictionary to see if I could see your tool – nothing quite like it there.

If it were not for the marking I would say this is a refined, shop-made version of the traditional scratch stock.

I think Preston tools were invariably marked as such. I, too, would like to know more about the registration system.
