        Hi fellow members.

I'm from Oxford and thought it was about time to join ME.

I picked ME because I have a love of all model engineering topics and general engineering stuff.

I bought a Wabeco lathe in Aug 2015 but a change of plans with my workshop put things on hold until now.

I don't have an engineering background as such but have been around electrics and spanners for many yrs. I am though, a complete novice to machining etc. I have made a few bits on my mates little clarke lathe a while back which made me want to get something decent myself.

        So here I am !

Will be asking a few questions in the noob section so see you there.

        Dave.

                Dave and Mike,

I often visit the science museum in Oxford and gawk at all of the old scientific instruments – so if you have never done that its worth a look and ponder upon how they made all those things back in the day.

What interesting things can you chaps recommend that I go and have a look at next time I am over ? Any other museums or displays nearby of an engineering nature that I may not find in the conventional tourist info or internet searches ?

                Bill

                  Dave, Welcome aboard.

I am also about 10 miles from Oxford. I completed an Engineering apprenticeship many moons ago and am celebrating??? 30 years in the IT industry this year. Finished my first project a Stuart 10V last year.

@ Bill Wood Combe Mill is a good visit and will keep you occupied for an hour or so. www.combemill.org

Hi Bill, I have been to the museum a couple of times over the years, the last time was quite brief as I was with my wife who doesn't find things like that as interesting as I do. I don't go to Oxford too much since Dick Turpin runs the car parks.

                      Hi Guys.

Mike… I am interested in just about anything related to engineering/models/tech really.

                      BTW what is minnie?

Hi Dave, Minnie is a live steam freelance traction engine designed by Len Mason, it is often built as a first model in 1" to the foot scale, quite a few have been built in 2" scale which makes a much more powerful engine. I'm a am making a 1" version. As it is a freelance design many people have produced it as a roller or showmans engine.
