        I have both ER32 and ER16 collet chucks for my lathes and (rightly or wrongly) machined the back-plates slightly larger than the chuck registers and then clocked them true – a bit like a poor mans Griptrue. Cannot remember what the TIR was and frankly I haven't checked them since that I can recall – but they seem to be good enough for my use.

        I do have a MT2 type ER32 collet but just for my mills – the back-plate ER mounted chucks are far more useful in my view as you can not only pass work through them but also use work setting aids (a back-stop for instance) – as well as mount them on other fixtures/tables/slides that can take a dummy mandrel nose….

        In other words, I'm using them for 'work' holding as well as 'tool' holding – but not everyone may do so of course…
