There are three stations – all indicated but not named on my AA road atlas – and the show-ground site lists two.

I have just looked at that…. I would not call it "dodgy" but it still lists only two events. One was a Christmas market that ended today (Dec. 4th), the other is in February, a trade-only food exhibition. So an exhibition in March would seem to be the next one but has not yet appeared.

I followed the link for more details of that public Christmas market. It is not possible to make a direct comparison but the YEC does have an advance-ticket system and for this market, its was:

"Admission

Advance Tickets – £5 online, £7 by phone

On the door – £9

Children under 16 do not need tickets."

No, this was for that Christmas market and it's likely to be higher for an exhibition, but it might give an idea of how the ME exhibition admission would be arranged.

It seems the YEC wants you to be on an e-post list, to telephone it or send a message to be told of future events etc; a method with which I do not agree.

The paucity of events though makes me wonder if the venue is just not attracting many major bookings; but it does not advertise anything else going on there, either. Things do happen. I saw that on Monday when I drove past it, but it seemed only a local market. Even these services are not advertised on the venue's web-site though.

Please Note: mine are observations on the "Yorkshire Event Centre" as it has demoted itself to. Not on the company booking the centre for the model-railway / model-engineering exhibition; about whom we know little of yet because neither company has widely published anything significant!

Nigel, Brian said his computer states is unsafe and that's why I called it dodgy. My 'puter says the same about some sites, including model engineering ones. Reason is they haven't got the latest security features.

Hi, starting from Knaresborough railway station and traveling towards Harrogate, you will find Starbeck station, then Harrogate station, which is in the centre of Harrogate, then southeast wards to Hornbeam Park station, which is to the west of the Yorkshire Event Centre. Google Maps

Hover over the railway signs on the map and it will bring up the station names.

Only if the bus is eco-friendly and grid-locks Yorkshire by breaking down en-route!

Seriously though, why so sour? It seems anything short of guaranteed end-to-end perfection is absolutely unacceptable to many posters. I won't embarrass anyone by listing examples but some of the reasons given are frankly wet.

My reason for not attending is it's too far. I don't travel long distances well due to a health issue, and my ageing eyes make driving after dark very tiring. Heavy traffic irritates me excessively. I don't relish adventure as I did in my youth, preferring wine in front of the telly to chasing ladies in seedy night clubs offering dodgy chemical stimulants. It's my fault I won't be going rather than anything the venue does well or badly.

Yes, it would be too far for me as well if it were not for a chance to combine it with a weekend at my caving-club; but I have yet to decide if I will attend. It would mean a round-trip of some 700 miles.

I don't enjoy night-driving either. Empty roads, or light traffic on a motorway, I can cope with. It seems every time you need the most light some car with extremely intense head-lamps and quite possibly permanently-on fog-lamps, suddenly appears around the bend or summit you are approaching.

I 'm not so sure about ladies in night-clubs though… wrong type of "model"!

Anyway, I telephoned the YEC this morning!

The lady helpfully said the show is taking place but added that it and other events are not yet on the web-site because their organisers have yet to confirm their bookings.

I asked if event organisers generally were being cautious, by the aftermath of Covid, the rising costs of living etc;, but she thought that was not the case.

I commented on the empty web-site otherwise, but she explained a lot of bookings are private business shows and conferences, and they do have local sales such as for Christmas tress.

No matter where the event is held, it will always be too far to travel for some. In the days of good old Alley Pally it was well attended, just think, if it was held thereabouts now, at the time it used to be, how many would attend THIS year??

Come on folks – it's a day out. It's not that complicated.
To sum this thread up – someone asked if rumours of an exhibition at Harrogate was likely to happen.
After more than 2 pages we found it is definitely planned and the details are available.
Then some are not going and feel the need to moan and tell us why in great detail – as if we would be interested.
It's just a day out!
