Hand cutting frames

Did someone once say they enjoyed cutting frames by hand? Those for my 71/4 Invicta are 6mm thick, full of curves and are painfully hard to get right. Nope, no fun whatsoever!

When I was building my "Dart" I cut the two frames (total thickness 3/8&quot over a period of one week of sawing and filing every evening for about 3 hours. I didn't think that it was too bad. A dreadnought file and a lot of pressure takes metal off very quickly.

Twenty years of seniour management havnt exactly done wonders for my fitness levels! I recon I might pay one of the locals to do the rest

A lot of people including me have used oxyacetylene flame cutter quite successfully on bigger frame plates .

Not nearly as barbaric as it sounds – with the right flame and a bit of practice you can cut very nearly to the line without doing any damage to finished plates .

Frames are cut individually of course – not stacked together .

You need another tool……………… a sawing and filing machine, not the little bench one, the floor standing half ton one. Long obsolete now, replaced by EDM. I believe the last ones were Italian made.

Cheque book engineering.

Send the DXF file to your local laser cutter and pour a cool one, then collect the plates when sober.
