Grinding paste

Hello everyone, i have obtained a few plastic syringes containing coloured pastes. I assume they are "grinding / lapping" pastes. each one has a number on it ranging from 0.5 – 40, could anyone tell me what these numbers indicate ?

They're diamond grinding pastes. The numbers refer to the size of the diamond particles, in microns.

You will probably be able to feel the 40 micron as gritty, if you rub it ‘twixt thumb and finger.
