Any one have a cunning idea how to mount the cutter to this, I made it but can't decide the best way to go about it, thought maybe through the edge at an angle with a flat milled on one edge of the cutter and held in with a grub screw, any good ideas out there.

Cut a notch and screw the insert onto the face.

I'd probably do a single, unless you can position them both to within 0.001" you will find one does all the cutting. Maybe just notch the other side to balance the disc.

Finally got round to fitting the cutter to the fly cutter only thing is I snapped the tap in the hole and theres no way to get it out, but not to worried because I was going to mill out the same amount the opposite side to try and keep it balanced, does any one know of a long slender tap holder that will hold M3 M4 size taps.

                    Regards Al.

drill a hole in a bit of rod and loctite the tap into that, bit of gentle heat will get it out again

That sounds like a very good idea thanks Jason.

                            Hi,

I've thought about making one of these. What I planned to do was to cut a blind slot in the "cutting" face and Loc-tite in an insert.

                              Mark,

                              That would probably work OK

… Best to use 638, I would think.

… But please do bear in mind that Loctite degrades at about 200°C, so don't let the tool overheat.

                                Alan,

Did you use a blank end arbor to make the flycutter and if so how did you affix the disc to the arbor?

                                Thanks,

                                Mark

Just out of interest, what kind of speed were you thinking about running it at and how are your spindle bearings?

Hello Mark managed to get the steel disc from a friend of mine and the arbour from RDG I think. machined the disc and bored out the centre smaller then the arbour, then turned down the arbour so I had a real good fit, I made a recess on both sides of the arbour and welded it both sides then put back in the lathe and machined it true, used a stick welder, I think the mill would break in half before the fly cutter would.

                                    Al.
