I was going to post that the wooden Marcos was epoxied together but perhaps they used Aerolite; it was certainly an ARL/Ciba Geigy product.

Thanks for further replies. The bronze bushes are 17mm ID, 21mm OD so 2mm wall – I'd be nervous about knurling without distorting, though this would be a good way to go if I were making the parts from scratch.

I had wondered about CA retainer, but wasn't sure if it would stick to wood – thanks for the suggestion of 601 MichaelG.

I have Gorilla foaming PU, but hadn't thought of it for this application because I think of it (perhaps wrongly) as a gap filling adhesive – it does seem to stick almost anything though.

        I shall make some experiments.

        Robin.

Just key the outside of the bush with coarse wet and dry to give some mechanical bite to the adhesive and that's as good as anything that's likely to stick.

Circlip, DH used Casein and Urea Formeldehyde glue on the Mosquito. The New zealand built Mosquitos are being constructed with Epoxy glue as advised by the boat builders at Team New Zealand, the builders of the NZ Americas Cup Yachts. I think if the Mosquito build had been left to the boat builders it would have been made of Carbon Fiber instead of wood(well maybe not). In tropical climates of SE Asia the old Casein glue tended to become unstuck, a few machines being lost that way while in flight.

There used to be a bulkhead near the tail that had to be stuck be stuck in very securely for fear of the tail falling off and the chief test pilot insisted that the man who stuck it in came with him on the first test flight of each airframe.

Done quite a few things like this over the years where looks mean everything.

Only one way to do it swage the boss in, its self gripping.

Bare in mind wood expand and contract, even dry out over time.
Fractional taper acting as a lead and knock the bush in.
Failing that as above knurl the edge if holes oversize and knock it in.

Can also thread the part no need to thread the wood.
