I have a one-off job to make a tender number plate in brass. How do I get the original (as a Word doc) to become a resist before etching? The finished article is approx 1/2" x 3/8". I note that Maplin do a basic printed circuit board etching kit and I wonder if this could be adapted?

      Advice greatly appreciated.

Whilst i have not tried it i understand if you print it out on a laser printer you can iron it onto the brass and the print will transfer and is etch resist.

I did the same thing to etch some copper jewellery. I laser printed onto acetate sheer and ironed it onto the metal. The metal needs to be scrupulously clean. I used Maplin’s ferric etch.
