If you need to measure an offset of 1″ to accuracy of a thou or less, I would be likely to start ith a 6″ rule, and only resort to a DTI for the last few thou (probably 1/64″)

I immediately thought of the Starret bell crank accessory which allows a (fairly) long travel DTI to measure inside bores. (have been unable to open the lilnk to Starrett “Page not found”)

If you are desparate, PM me with an E mail address; I think that somewhere, I have drawings of such an accessory.

They are not unique.  I have a “John Bull” DTI with such a device among the nattacments.

It would appear that Starrett is ‘deprecating’ a lot of their more specialist/interesting/useful products in favour of fast-moving ‘consumer-stuff”.

Every time I go to the site there seems to be less of interest.

Another once-great name slipping into mediocrity ?
