      At least not this year….

The web-site for the Yorkshire Events Centre to use the bland new name for what still uses “Great Yorkshire Showground” as its postal address, lists many public and trade-only exhibitions for this year, but none for any aspect of model-making.

So presumably no model-engineering show this year at least.

Anyone know why? Or if any are likely in future?

      .

Still, we always console ourselves by visiting some motor-caravan show or other, elsewhere in Yorkshire,  irrelevantly advertised on this site’s starting page.

        Surely very relevant to  Mortons

… just chasing the money !

As this site covers home workshop activities I see no reason that we should exclude those who tinker with their vans and campers in their workshop. Or the many here who have no interest in model engineering but put their workshops to other uses. I’ve even made parts for my brother’s VBub camper and his other classic cars

There is also another long thread about the Harrogate show or lack of.

Whoever organises the show (And a LOT of work minvolved in that!) has to balance expenditure on venue hire, publicity etc against income from traders and the gate.

As we have seen over several years, many traders are finding that sales do not cover the cost of attendance.

And so it becomes a vicious circle, the traders that we want are not there, so we don’t go, and the show becomes unprofitable, so more traders absent themselves, and the organising becomes unviable.

So no one is prepared to lose money on the show.

Do we value the help we get from ME/MEW ? Do we value this forum ?

This forum helped to keep me sane during both Covid and illness !

EIM – GONE ! Ally Pally – GONE ! Harrowgate = Seems GONE ! Howard has pointed out the economics of it ! The writing is on the wall ! The only big show this year will be the Midland, IF you value your hobby PLEASE support it ! You know what will happen IF you don’t – it will also be GONE !   Noel.

Yes, I agree that it is nice to go to events to look at some of the exceptional models and meet like-minded people.

But if like me the expense of travelling to events and possibly accommodation cost would be better spent buying from home as shows don’t seem to have the special offers that they once offered to encourage me to go.

Maybe we don’t help either if we extol on here buying from this-that-or-the-other Chinese or American on-line “supermarket” rather than supporting our specialist retailers in person at the exhibitions or by mail / Internet order……
