Darwin Award candidate blown up in his shed.

A bloke who lives a couple of miles from me, a boilermaker by trade, was reported in this morning's paper as blowing his hand off with a chunk of homemade explosive. WHILE "TOSSING IT IN THE AIR AND CATCHING IT LIKE A GOLF BALL," a witness said.

He made the explosive from a readily available internet recipe known as "Mother of Satan" invented and used by ISIS and composed of just three very common hardware store substances.

So of course I had to have a look and sure enough, ISIS recommends extreme caution when making this stuff, chilling it to minus 5 degrees C and slowly adding the last ingredient one drop at a time then letting it cool back down. It also advises that friction or slight impact can set off the finished product, a resultant crystaline paste.. And when it is packed into a detonator casing etc, they recommend a remote machine with safety shields etc.

Tossing it in the air like a golf ball. Duh!

(Note: it does not seem this bloke was a terrorist etc, just an idiot amusing himself and his very fortunate mates in his shed.)

In the very early days of the internet me & my best mate downloaded the original & undoctored Anarchists Cookbook. We succesfully cooked up a fertiliser bomb and moved onto some of the more involved recipes.

Luckily, I showed one potential recipe to my father, who was an explosives expert, he pointed out that this particular recipe called for a mixture to be heated to a certain temp. He said it would never get past 50deg.

They reckon that this recipe was planted specifically to catch you out & this is how Abu Hamza lost both his hands & one eye !
