Simple question does any one know if they are available, I'm thinking of a poster sized one laminated if possible with metric to IMP conversion tap and drill size chart you know the sort of thing I mean.

      Alan.

Yes free if you visit a Cromwell tool outlet.

A2 sized a bit 'plasticsised ', not actually laminated

They do two, decimal conversion with letter a,number and metric and a same sized tap die chart.

Not quite the same, but my main source of drill sizes from 0.0135" – 1.000" is the circular SHETACK calculator. Drill sizes in inches, metric,SWG,number and letter for BSW,BSF,Ba,Mertic (pitch not stated) and gas. Like nthe Lonjdon tube map, its MAGIC.

I have never see one, but does a metric version exist giving pitch as well ?

Doubt it Bob, they are a bit of a collectors item now.

Didn't realise how old they were, found one [ very faded ] on Ebay dated 1938.

I used to have one but never got on with it and might have thrown it out.

I have pinned up a yellowing "Model Engineer's Workshop Wallchart" which I think came with ME predating MEW. It has loads of tapping charts etc but also a list of numbered drills against their inch and metric eqivalents. Despite printing out spreadsheets of metric imp conversions I find this wallchart's presentation easier than being precise for most estimations.

I have an equivalent number drill list with some taping sizes against them from the back of someone's catalogue. (Tracy?)

Many of us may have picked up a year planner at Ally Pally paid for by advertising round the edge. It would be great if ME could resurrect the wallchart above and give them away at Sandown. Has to be popular with advertisers as unlike a year planner it would be garuanteed to be up in every model engineer''s shed until if fell apart.

Myford produce a wall chart which is quite comprehensive and available from several sources which a search will produce. It has a wipe clean surface.

Bob, please can you do a higer resolution picture of the disc thing, perhaps just the sector and a bit of the scale would do.

                      Hi There

Would there be any interest if I printed some A4 charts in MEW?

I am thinking that we could put four pages in the centre and you could photocopy them and hang them in the workshop or laminate them.

When they are worn out, you could photocopy them some more.

Any takers? I can plan them into issue 203 if there is enough interest.

                      regards David

                            Hi David,

                            Yes please!

Drills: letters / nos./ fractions / metric. Threads: BA / 32T / 40T / Brass26T / Gas / Metric(Fine or Fine and Coarse??) / BSF / BSW. I would think that first 4 listed most important for majority of Model Engineering needs. Main need is Tapping sizes and % depth of thread. Possibly also TPI of BA.

                                Hi David,

That would be excellent. I have the larger sized ones that were given away with MEW in your early days as Editor, but find them a bit big for the wall so have to keep unfolding them, so they are falling apart at the seams!

Agreed that A4 we can encapsulate will be more handy than big wallcharts. I already have a few reference sheets hung ona nail – changewheel tables, BA and metric screw data.

Might reduce the wear on my 'Model Engineer's Handbook'!

That would be a useful inclusion in the magazine, I subscribe to paper magazine but what about the digital only subscribers? As we all know, printing from the digital issues is a right PITA, how about a PDF for subscribers to download in addition or in place of the magazine pages.

                                                      Hi David,

This idea of your seems to have been a winner. Just one thought, perhaps before you put ink to paper, you give a list of the items to be included. Not a finished format, just a paragraph that you copied from your proposed chart and 'paste special – unformated text' into a paragraph.

It would be a shame for something to be missed when there is such a forum of MEs.
