Clarke drill press

I have a Clarke drill press Clarke CDP5DD for what I paid for it, it's served me well, however I need to replace the motor but I cannot find what the motor frame size is ! Would anyone know or any advice on how to establish the frame size ?

Have you removed said motor and compared foot dimensions with a list like on engineeringtoolboxdotcom?

When I was looking for a motor once, I discovered it would have been cheaper to buy one of those pillar drills, remove the motor and throw the bits in the scrap bin.

Prices have risen since, but it may be cheapest to replace the whole thing.

Compare:

Drill press at £80

Slightly more powerful motor at £83

<edit> if it hasn't burnt out, you probably only need to replace the start/run cap[acitor under a shroud on the side of the motor. Bargains! Much cheapness!

Agree with Neil ! Check out the capacitor first. Electric motors seem to go on for ever,I have some still running well after 50 years of workshop use. Capacitors are cheap.

Not Done It Yet Intend to remove motor asap but just had minor surgery on left hand for carpal tunnel

Metalworker Drill press, capacitor failed. Got one from RS Components, approx. £6 post free,

The new capacitor wouldn't fit inside the box, so strapped it to the motor. Perfect!

Single handed 'pun intended' had a closer look a the motor it looks like it's a special the mounting bracket is spot welded to the motor case and the shaft has been turned down for 0.625 to 14mm ! A quick check on the website 'not done it yet' suggested put's the motor at frame 56, I was looking to uprate the motor but as Neil pointed out a motor is nearly the cost of a new drill press so for now when hand allows I think I'll look at changing the bearings.

I did just what Neil did when I wanted an electric motor. Cheaper by some considerable margin than buying just the motor, and I got a no-volt switch and a cheap but surprisingly accurate chuck into the bargain. I'm still trying to work out what to make out of the left-over bits.
