chuck removal from speed reducer

I have a Mason Master drill speed reducer and I wish to remove the chuck, a Jacobs Multicraft M6CG61. Having a problem shifting it. Are these screwed on or tapered ?

Close the chuck jaws up Fit the chuck key as if you where using some to tighten hold the wheel and give the chuck key a sharp tap job done chuck loosened.

It is now removed. Thanks for info above. A chuck key did not work, but a good sized allen key tightened in the chuck jaws and then a good hit on that did work. 3/8 UNF thread.

I can now turn up a tapered mandrel with that size thread on other end to fit the small lathe I am restoring.
