      Why all the moaning??

Its mainstream TV. Prehaps they should have had half an hour on rivet counting, or half an hour explaining the "gauge" of the track.

And therein lies a major problem: a lot of people today simply do not have any idea how to make do and mend. Or even how to do it in the first place. It's alright spending 7 years at school, then a further 3 or 4 years at university learning the theory, but what about the practical. I've seen some of them, and I wouldn't pay them in washers.

        Peter G. Shaw

I wonder if – by the time they reach 25/30- they will be earning a heap more washers than you  did ??

          Sam,

Most probably, but did they have the satisfaction? There's more to life than money, even though money is somewhat essential.

today think of nothing but themselves. They have no reverence for
parents or old age. They are impatient of all restraint. They talk as
if they knew everything, and what passes for wisdom with us is
foolishness with them. As for the girls, they are forward, immodest

Pretty much the dark ages back then, 300 years in a rut before we got going?

                A religious rut back then

A politically correct rut today, a different religion, the same old nonsense

I am losing the will to live watching the second instalment.

What could have been a fine example of model engineering in the smaller gauges has become utter rubbish and drivel.

I am just about to change channels or fall to sleep.

                  Cheers,

                  Julian

I tried to be positive about this program, but I now have to agree with others. total shite

Its a shame that all the resources couldn't have created something long lasting…..

I too sat down to watch this and quickly grew tired of it. What a shame the media industry seems to think that petty behaviour and nonsense are entertaining. Just prior to watching it there was a pretty good program about the voyager space probes on bbc 4. I say pretty good rather than excellent because it too was a bit dumbed down.

Many (including myself and SWTSMBO) will find it interesting but I can well understand how TRUE muddle ingineers will find the programme trivial and boring but I wonder how many ex sperts could think and design "On the hoof" working to the allotted timescale and non workshop resources?

Well done (doing) Mr. Strawbridge, drawing VOLENTEERS from different walks of life and abilities t play at toy trains.

Far better than channel 4's rendering many years ago that made the construction of a garden railway look like trivial pursuits.

                          Regards Ian.

The programme is not actually about model trains or miniature engineering. It actually has more in common with natural history progs…it's about showing viewers what weird, nerdy intelligent people look like so that 'ordinary' people can feel OK about not being particulary bright….. The main requirement is that the nerds are seen to be deeply unattractive, and preferably a bit helpless….

It has more in common with the 'Hotel Inspector' and 'Ramseys Kitchen nightmares' and I find I can't watch it without mentally 'editing' the bits which will soon go to Gogglebox' so that the gay hairdressers and the airhead sisters can point out how ridiculous intelligence actually is,..and thus feel superior in their own stupidity!…Job done!
