I'm sure that the cold weather is keeping a few of you in the armchair this afternoon so to keep you from dropping off after lunch this is a video showing the pattern making, moulding and casting of a Wright Brothers Model B crankcase from one of their early aircraft that was posted by Mike Remus editor of MEB mag. Its for one of three replica engines built.

PS its about 2hrs long so should keep you awake until afternoon tea

Thats a lot of work but it looks like a good clean casting – I did fast forward a bit in places – Bit to involved for my back yard setup crook

How did they design that crankcase? Did they free hand the core structure first then add the wall thickness to it. Its easy to draw a cross section, but before CAD, how to transform this around 180 degrees?
