Not a Raglan owner but helped a friend who had one a few years ago, and he gave me a part number for the special drive belt ROULUNOS ROFLEX 22H7025 DR433. He asked me to pass on the details.  Ted

Thanks Ted. Could you ask your friend whether his lathe is a Little John Mk1 or Mk2 (which use one length of belt) or the later Raglan 5″ (which uses a longer belt)

          Hi

I have a Raglan 5″ lathe which I use freaquently for hobby and semi retired work, it would be great to get advice and guidance on how to keep it in good working order.

            Hi Colin

I see you are already registered on the Raglan forum, so just ask away there and you should get informed answers.

A first question, where do i get new backplates for the Raglan 5″?

I’m not aware of a supplier – you just make your own. Cutting the thread can be a little daunting but it is certainly possible. I rotated the spindle manually when I made one. I now have an electronic leadscrew fitted to my Raglan 5″ so I’m hoping that it should be somewhat easier now. I intend to make some more so maybe I should get into the workshop and just do it!

I should have pointed out that the quality and fit of the thread is not critical. The 2 location diameters and the spindle mating face do all the aligning – the thread just pulls the chuck on.

There is a drawing in the manual that gives the dimensions (if you don’t have the manual it is available on the Raglan forum)

I’ve put a little write-up on making a backplate for the Raglan lathe on the Raglan forum, in case it helps

They do occasionally come up on epay but often sell at ridiculously high prices (IMO).
