Some time ago I bought a Myford dividing head, it's about time I got a chuck for it. I've got a suitable chuck, and bought a threaded backplate from RDG, not much more expensive than buying a lump of iron to make it from. I now need to machine the register. Myford used to supply a 4 MT arbor with a ML7 nose so you could use old chucks on your new lathe. This would be ideal for this one off job, but I haven't got one. Anyone got one I could borrow? If not I'll have to machine a dummy nose from scratch. Obviously I'll pay postage both ways

Myford spindle nose adaptors with 2MT are available.

Open-ended 4MT to 2MT reducers are available. In a different context, they might be known as a spindle nose bush.

Hi, I think I have one of those, it has a 12 tip thread on the big end and is tapped for a draw bar at the other.

Or get somebody with a small Myford to do it for you.

Dare I say that an adaptor can be pretty useful if you want to keep the workpiece centred in the chuck and transfer to the dividing head?

Thanks to those who have got back. Just to clarify, there is an adaptor which I have from MT4 to MT2 which allows you to use Myford collets, but it doesn't have the parallel bit or a shoulder so you can't mount chucks. I'm trying to do this on the cheap, so DC31K's suggestion was not immediately appealing, but I take Chris's suggestion, good point. I've added some pictures to clarify

Does the 254 have a large threaded nose like the big bore S7? Mine came with a big bore to standard nose adapter with MT2 taper if that would help?

How cheap is cheap? 4MT to 2MT bush is £10.96; Myford spindle nose on 2MT is £16.50, both from RDG.

Duncan, I do have the MT2 spindle nose adaptor and I think – have to check an MT4 step up sleeve 2-4 0r 3-4 have to check, if its of interest please PM me.

Well I very nearly bought one, but the RDG ones don't have provision for a drawbar, and I've fallen foul of turning something held on MT without drawbar before. A very kind member of the forum has offered to lend me one. What a fine bunch of chaps you all are.

My apologies if anybody objects to my thread drift.

Myford is offering some taper turning attachments, which seem to have been cluttering up their shelves. £400-odd could be a lot for something which you use once or twice, but nice to have even if never economically sound.

Job done, adaptor back on it's way to the kind chap who lent it to me. I did consider making an MT4 to Myford nose but the MT4 blank arbors aren't big enough.
