Bridgeport Mill BR2J Head Vibration

Just wondering if anybody else out there with a Bridgeport Mill noice any head vibration. ?

Mine is particularly noticeable at lower speeds. You can watch the light attached to the side of the column wobble.

It seems to reduce as the speed is increased from low 450 rpm upwards.

The head in itself dosent seem that noisy in fact it runs quietly I think……so just wondering if anyone else had come across the vibrations?

Or can suggest what might be causing it ?

My machine had a slight tendency to do the same. Cured by mounting the machine on rubber pads, then used 2mm metal sheet as shims to level it.

Good suggestion there. My machine is currently resting on a concrete floor, I did think about rubber feet but hadn't bothered. Perhaps that might help. Appreciate the suggestion.

Assuming a varispeed head then 450rpm is right at rhe bottom of the upper speed band. So one end will have the belt on the outside of the discs, and the other end has the belt on the inside of the discs, close to the drive shaft. Any corrosion or dents on the edges of the discs will cause vibration, as will the belt if it is contacting the drive shaft. I don't run my Bridgeport much below 500rpm on the top range; not so much due to specific vibration, but it just doesn't sound too happy.
