Just a quick video on the problems fitting a non OEM wing mirror can cause!

Interesting, but a bit lacking in detail as to what the actual problem is, is it poor or incompatible sensors, bad fitting or lack of correct calibration by the fitter, etc..

I understand how the AT sensor causes all those problems, but he was a bit canny concerning taking steps to avoid them..?

Also would it offend anyone to give this thread a new title?

Ok,  the temperature sensor was reading low, but surely the engine management system would allow the engine to run correctly at that low temperature.  There must have been something else in conflict with the system ??

The external temperature is used by the ECU to determine whether/how/when to carry out a DPF regeneration. No sensor means no regen, so the DPF clogs up. As an owner of a Ducato/Boxer/Relay van that operates in a similar manner, I’m aware of this quirk.

Generally speaking the cheaper [ebay] mirrors don’t have a temperature sensor in them.

He goes into more detail in a similar video:

What it really shows is incredibly incompetent design making the whole system dependent on certain sensors and then putting them in extremely vulnerable places.

Isn’t this from the same French group that makes cars which won’t start if a headlight bulb is blown ?

Edit: __ perhaps I dreamt that … can’t find any reference just now

Nice to know there are some good mechanics\technicians still around.  A own brand dealership tried to charge my son £450 to say they didn’t know what was wrong with his car, like the video he had a engine management light on.

Drifting off topic but still extremely bonkers about these here new fangled letric cars running away, didn’t it occur to the car makers to put something as simple as an OFF switch on the main battery lead.

A switch! Good grief which century are you living in? Much better to use complex algorithms in powerful computer chips that only work correctly during certain phases of the moon,  together with totally meaningless information icons and preferably an annoying sound if possible. Really!

Too many designers and manufacturers have forgottem, or never heard of, the Radio Amateurs watchword KISS

                      Keep It Simple Stupid.

Adter all, a long weld in plastic, or hidden claw closure, is better for aftermarket sales than a simple bolt and nut!
