      Image 23-04-2024 at 16.43does anyone have a lead on how these retaining “punches” are made , what kind or where would one get one or make a die/punch  , there would be three even indents made in a soft steel  core to retain the washers ?

        The first thing that sprung to mind is something that looks like this:

        Applied with percussion instead of rotation, it might produce the effect shown.

          61OlsgQAwfL._AC_SX679_yeh, it’s got to be bit of tool steel with three lugs sticking out so u can insert the ” shaft and press it down so the shaft bottoms out , just not sure if this was an old way of retaining on shafts before spring clips etc same idea internaly as this ,shaft is on 8mm od very of soft steel
