      Hi All,

      Here s this weeks oddity!

Came from a house clearance guy who brings me stuff, he has no idea what it is for and I don’t either!

Some kind of circlip removal/ insertion tool perhaps?

      No makers marks.

The central ram pushes forward and spreads the jaws a small amount.

      All idea welcome.

      Cheers, Martin

        Hi.

A total guess, maybe for installing and removing E clips, but only of a specific, pre-determined size.

        Alan.

At first glance I thought a tool for holding small screws before driving in with a screwdriver but then maybe a tool for placing cobblers nails prior to being hammered in.

How does the ‘bolt’ work, by pushing the handle or is it a two handed device, one on handle and the other on the bolt?

It’s a device for assembling cone valve cotters.

              See description here:

                +1for C clip / E clip insertion tool.
Sprung jaws would accept a range of sizes.

It appears to be a “Gerald Staines” NUBO Valve Collet tool; at least two different sizes

This seems to be the relevant patent

There’s at least a couple on eBay at the moment; this is one

Crossed posts with Peter. Patent number on ebay one confims it’s for valve cotters.

Likely a cheap chinese ‘knock-off’ if there was no patent number on it to easily find out what it was?🙂🙂

So what does the sliding bolt do?  This a simpler tool:-
