            Sorry Steven,

Grovel, grovel! I appear to have completely missed your email. You should have a reply now.

Following the revelation that there are only two registered Adept lathes left, the value of mine has entered six figures…

Only if it's in the original jiffy bag that it came in!

                    Neil,

It looks like you might have another one on the Register soon

                    bidding seems quite enthusiastic.

"Enthusiastic" isn't quite the word I'd use Michael – Daft comes to mind… Talking of which.

Neil, can my (un-named) 'Baby' lathe have an honorary membership please ( if only on the basis that its faceplate looks a bit 'Adept-like'? )

                        Ian,

That's clearly an inferior Chinese copy – worthless and unsuitable for any purpose beyond getting the rind off a bratwurst.

Seriously obviously a clone – but any more pics?

There are at least two more than mine at liberty. There is, also. I am told, a collector.

They are there, but well camoflaged!

Bit like a chihuahua of the lathe world! you could have it in your handbag at the rallies!!

Looks good I wouldnt say no to one but I guess that dont count on the registercheeky

I just picked up an adept lathe this summer, thinking maybe my son might like one. Turns out he has no use for it. So I was wondering what it might be worth if I was to put it up on craigslist. Looks like it is in good condition. British made, black, looks like it could be original paint.

Sold mine with motor, chuck and all the bits for about £140. Went to some dude in ireland I think. Neill managed to increase demand and prices with his restoartion I think

I'm afraid an Adept is only worth what someone will pay for it. Suggesting a fixed sale price is impossible, especially as they vary so much in condition.

A worn out one with few accessories is really only a starting point for a restoration project, one in good condition with motor etc. may well be worth more to someone who enjoys using old-fashioned and rather limited equipment for the challenge.

A completist collector who just wants something to paint and sit on a shelf, might pay silly money.

I would suggest you put it on ebay with an honest description and photos of all the parts and let the free market decide a fair price. Choose a starting price that won't disappoint you if it sells for it.

Ty for the info. I am really not an Ebay fan and only have seen a few sold on it, and they were in England. I am in Canada, so i think I will sell it privately. It came with a chuck and motor(needs a new plug) , looks in good condition so I might even keep it.

Neil, I just use 30 grade oil, sold for 4 stroke lawn mowers etc. I just put a drop in each hole when I start up, and if I'm still going after an hour I do it again. There is also a jack shaft with pulleys to match the headstock, and a 6" pulley for the drive from the motor, this has a steel shaft running in a cast iron bearing bored directly in the stand, it also needs oiling at the same time.

I mentioned this 'Vertical Slide' on p1, but have only just summoned-up the courage to photograph it.

The idea is excellent, but the execution is gruesome crying

It came to me as a stowaway, hiding amongst the accessories for a Pultra lathe. … In the fullness of time, I will probably re-work it to fit the little [Brian Perris designed] Jason.

As it stands: The Adept top-slide is certainly the nicest part yes
