I find myself in need of a piece of brass approximately the sizes above or metric around 75x125x3mm

I have to etch a plate for my sons ashes casket but cannot find anything around this size anywhere on ebay

Can anyone tell me where I might find this material?

I also have another question, I can do this and usually use those rub on letters from stationary shops, sometimes the etch gets underneath the letters, is there a better way I can use?

        Thankyou in advance

M-machine do 3" x 1/8" flat brass strip, they may cut you less than a foot but will certainly supply a 12" length

a locksmith + key cutting shop in Douglas IoM has a small CNC engraver that seems designed for such operations – I’m sure there must be many shops elsewhere in British Isles that have such machines – you could even use Stainless Steel if you can’t find the correct type + size of brass stock

You can 'photoetch' brass by making your own drawing (largish) and then getting your local copy shop to make a (smaller) transparency on film to the right size………..The brass is polished and then covered with a light-sensitive, acid resist ,..the transparency placed on top, and the assembly then exposed to sunshine for about 5 or so mins. The brass plate is then 'developed' in a solution that washes away unexposed resist andn then the brass is etched in acid….

The lettering and design can be filled with black to give nice contrast later.

If you visit the well known clock making site at clickspring.weebly you will find one of his excellen vids shows the entire operation….however, if you have any problems then I can send you a magazine article from a clock magazine if you wish……….Good Luck!

                  Francis, thankyou for the reply

That was my first thought but a local engraver wantged nedarly £70 to do the job

After thinking about it I would mean more to me to do it myself

Bob, thankyou also for your suggestion but I live in the sticks a bit so making a copy and finding someone to make the uv resist would be a long shot

My results using letraset are not too bad so that might be my best option

Unfortunately they don't have online ordering. I usually e-mail a list and give card number and ask them to phone or e-mail back when they have a total inc postage then I give the the 3 digit code. You can also phone orders in.

I see Macc models also list it and they have online shopping, link down right of page in shopping partners
