Time to make a stand for the engine.

I wanted to make a carrier similar to the one used on full size engines so I

thought I would put my new silver solder skills to use and solder some stainless

                pieces together.

I made a simple jig to hold the pieces while I soldered.img_0035 (medium).jpg

After soldering the cradle it was put into a Citric acid bath for a few minutes then polished img_0036 (medium).jpg

Next I cut a couple of pieces of hard wood from some old door frame I saved.

The first piece I cleaned up into a rectangle and routed around the top , the second

piece I drew a rough outline of the shape I wanted and attacked it with a flap disc

on my grinder. It carved up much easier than I thought and just needed a quick sand

into the final shape before I varnish.img_0037 (medium).jpg

Quick test of the cradle to the rear of the engine.

I have given the stand a sanding and varnish , then mounted the engine.

You may notice the manifolds are now silver ,had some silvering powder

left over from a clock build so decided to use some on the copper manifolds.img_0044 (medium).jpg

Got a small propeller of EBay so had to make a prop washer for the crankshaft end.

So the engine is now complete , unfortunately the carb I bought is not suitable so I need

to find a replacement. The carb I bought is a 'slide' carb and will not fit properly between

the cylinders so I need to buy a rotary versionimg_0065 (medium).jpg

Excellent build log David, have just read all the way through with great interest and learned a lot from the work holding set-ups and the design, especially of the epicyclic geared cam drive and internal fan to stir the air in the crankcase.

Many of the work holding set-up were especially interesting, this being an area where I have little experience – that proved invaluable.

The standard of machining is excellent too, resulting in a lovely engine to be very justifiably proud of.

                                    Well done that man,

                                    Chris

That was fantastic, have read from start to finish.
                                      Very impressed!
