Hi, can anyone let me know who sales the treated inserts for a steam locomotive. And if they have a name. This is for a 5 inch gauge locomotive manifold. Thanks

There isn’t a standard thread. You need to measure what you have. Most likely Model engineer threads. Maybe even BA.

You will need to buy some thread gauges and then use some dowel of the approximate diameter of the back head threaded holes. Screw the dowel in and then unscrew it and measure the threads per inch or the metric pitch using the thread gauges. This will tell you what thread you have.

Better still join your local ME club and you will get plenty of help.

I presume you mean thread inserts (helicoils) if so if you have an original bolt measure dia / pitch and google it, there is lots of info out there.

If it was made in UK the threads are probably 32 or 40 tpi, no guarantees!

What is the loco ? do you have the drawings, what do they say ? Do you mean a threaded bush to mount the manifold on the boiler ? Or has the thread failed and needs rethreading ? Could be 26tpi, or 32tpi, 40tpi possible but rather fine. More data needed. Noel.
