When I still lived at home I didn’t know that Mum had put a bread pudding in the (cold) oven to keep the flies off.  Neither did I know that it had a celluloid handled knife with it.  I turned the oven on to cook tea and after a while  there was a FFFFFffffffffff noise followed by a belch of smoke. It ruined both the knife and, what was worse, the bread pudding. And on top of that, I had to clean the oven. You won’t be surprised to know that since then I always check the oven before I turn it on.

Howard, I still have tupperware from over 50 years ago.  Still going strong – even with a lot of microwaving and dishwashing.  Doubtless some pieces have gone in the rubbish over the years.  I now cherish those that are left and hope they will see me out.

I thought that all thermoplastics softened if the temperature is raised sufficiently – use silicone plastics (if one considers this group of chemicals as plastics) for higher temperatures!
