I hope they do continue producing machine-tools.

I have one of their bench-drills, and apart from the minor irritation of it being not possible to bring the chuck down very near the table (baseplate surface) it is still giving very good service.

Correct me if I am wrong, but it is my belief that Meddings have not produced the majority of their drills in the UK for many years now, except for one small basic model. I believe the majority of their offerings were produced in Spain and re-badged for the home market. Given that you can effectively purchase an equally reliable and accurate machine of far-eastern manufacture at lower cost from the likes of Machine Mart and Axminster etc. it should come as no surprise that another British marque may be disappearing or at least be manufactured wholly overseas.
