There are often questions of a basic nature from new owners of Myford lathes concerning e.g. lubrication, engaging back gear, adjusting bearings, etc.

All these questions are addressed in the appropriate Myford hand book for the particular lathe so I urge all persons unfamiliar with Myford lathes to obtain a manual. They are freely available from "new" Myford and also often appear on eBay. Some can even be downloaded free.

Also Ian Bradley's book "Myford series 7 manual" is very good and costs very little new.

I have had a Myford lathe for years but I still have to refer to the manual occasionally.

The problem with asking questions on this or other forums is that often conflicting advice is provided leaving the beginner no wiser.

One thing not in the book but very necessary for many owners [ note I stated owners, not users ] if that they should be sited facing east and enough space left in front for the prayer mat.

LOLs – Is this to ask for divine inspiration when trying to decide what to make?

To pray when things start to go wrong?

or is it to worship the lathe itself?

In my case it's probably most helpful to the knees when searching in the swarf and muck beneath the lathe for that 4BA grub screw I just dropped.
