I realise that the larger dial is in better focus and has less reflection, but it is interesting that, the ‘dirty’ cream dial is, I think, easier to read. Just the photo or actual ?

Being a bit larger, they are also easier to mend when they disassemble themselves internally.

My imperial Baty has a dial exactly the same cream colour as your photo, probably aging of the paint. Metric gauges will normally have a much brighter yellow dial colour.

More education. I had no idea gauges were colour coded!

Of course Doxa divers watches had yellow faces to enable them to be more easily seen in murky water (I don't know how well it works.)

Don't forget colours are not always accurately represented on a computer monitor, unless you have calibrated it.

The advantage of a large dial is that the graduations are further apart, making extrapolation easier, and so greater accuracy. If you need it.

Too easy to become obsessed with minute differences, but ideal if micron chasing is part of your hobby.

Yes, have to stop myself, from time to time , trying to work to a "tenth", when a "thou" would do quite well
