Graham Fellows in his John Shuttleworth persona takes the blame for what follows. On Radio 4 Extra he drew my attention to Nirvana's smash hit 'Smells of White Spirit' .

I suggest other suitable songs for we fans of Heavy Metal. In addition to Chuck Berry:

Knock Knock Who's There – Mary Hopkin
A Boy Named Glue – Johnny Cash
        White Welding – Billy Idol
Quill the Eskimo – Bob Dylan
French Polish in the USA – Blondie
Don't Fear the Reamer – Blue Oyster Cult
The Other Man's Brass is Always Greener – Petula Clark
Whole Lot of Shaking Goin' On – Jerry Lee Lewis

and of course the Beatles – Help!

        Any other suggestions?

Oh dear S.O.D. you really are trying to wind up the 'irrelevant thread' crew!

Must admit, I'm a big music lover, but I never have music playing while I'm doing machining – workshop sound system has been disconnected for a couple of years

I reckon the Rolling Stones have pretty much got it covered:-

                                Steel Wheels.

                                Dirty work.

                                Play with fire.

                                Hot Stuff.

                                Sparks will fly.

                                Paint it black.

                                Memo from Turner.

                                And to round things off:-

                                Think I’m going mad.

                                Flick the switch

                                Too much blood.

It's all right for you lot, but just think of us poor souls with defective hearing! Much as I used to like classical music, I now can't listen having lost bass response and got reduced sensitivity in both ears.

Mind you it's quite handy when herself comes yammering at the door!

I've no claim to be any kind of music lover. Despite that I find listening to music in the workshop really helps me concentrate: I recommend an MP3 player loaded with tunes. Speech radio has a negative effect.

As to the thread being irrelevant, not so. 'Everybody Loves a Clown' – it's by Gary Lewis & the Playboys…

I want a song by an Aussie group called the Angels – am i ever going to see your face again ?

You may want to look it up on youtube but not in a public place !

Peter just buy bigger speakers and a massive amp ! Music is best served very loud !

I record a radio programme every saturday and sunday ( it starts at 4am so i have little chance of listening to it any other way ) i usually play that when i'm in the shed , sometimes i have a dvd going – usually a movie i have seen a trillion times and bridge over the river kwai or the great escape or dam busters are favourites . I don't really watch them just listen to them and occasionally look at the screen usually when i take a swig of my tea or coffee.

While I don't have much music in the workshop, in my 'office' it's continuous Planet Rock and Radio 4, except rare bits of R5L or R4extra if there's something I want to hear.

As for appropriate tunes, for me it's probably the Rolling Stones 19th Mechanical Breakdown or a Neil Young song oif Ragged Glory whose name I won't type but ends in 'Up'.
