The portable gas stove is so much more convenient compared with the electric one.

I set the KRUPS grinder to mid way on grind selection, but will experiment with coarser settings for a longer brew.
The result of this first brew just confirmed that NOTHING beats percolated coffee, something I only drank in the '50s-80s.
Why I stopped I have no idea – DUH

Geoff – What a pleasure downing percolated coffee once again.

I mostly use a filter machine, but really a grinder, kettle, jug, strainer and mug is all you need. I like East African coffee beans, mostly – though I've lately found Lidl's Java/Sumatra tasty and good value.

My old boy loved it but eventually had to give it up because it affects your ticker (if you make it strong enough)

My childhood remembers those "glug glug glug plip plip plip" days well

                                question

Genuinely confused? They may all be called 'bars' these days but when I were a young un' they were coffee shops…

I bet you're one of those posh people who calls red sauce ketchup.

Just for clarity, it won't take anyone long to discover that in Wales we have proper coffee shops.

I must be getting old! It. When I was a lad and you asked for a cup of coffee, that's what you got. It doesn't seem long ago that I asked for a cup of coffee and was asked whether I meant espresso, latte, cappuccino, mocha, americano, and several more I can't remember – and this by a lad who looked about 12. But I'm determined to learn, because modern coffee is miles better than the grey sludge served up in my home town in the 1960s.

I think coffee bars were from the 50s and 60s eg 2Is, caffs were frequented by ton up kids or bypass Cowboys

When I was daft enough to go fishing in all weathers, a shot of Cointreau in the coffee worked wonders. At the other end of the scale, who can remember Camp coffee? I'm horrified to discover that you can still buy it.

I'm old enough to remember the Mods congragating outside the local coffee bar. There was a milk bar nearby as well! A bar is definitely the place to go for a coffee here in France.

I find the italian style coffee percolator makes the best tasting coffee but use a pump cafetière for my BIG bowl of morning coffee.

Before you condemn Camp coffee, try some in a large glass of cold milk. It's delicious! First tried it at a Knoll Hill traction engine rally. It was baking hot that day, and a glass of that from a vendor was just what I needed.

Russell, I remember mods and rockers, too, but ours being a very small town, we had just one of each, who scowled at each other from opposite corners of the milk bar. Remembering back to my schooldays, we had just one teddy boy.
