        Hi Neil / editors

Whilst having a insomnia moment together with an arthritic back in the early hours of this morning I was perusing the latest edition # 273, just received yesterday, I was looking through the article 'Four gadgets' from Nigel W.I.Taylor. In his article at the end 'low profile slitting saw arbor' p22, it is describing his process of making it but comes to an abrupt end after his last sentence 'The flange is 7/8 inch diameter & 3/32 inch thick'. Then he starts the next sentence… 'The collar … ? He also states ' photo 7 … ?

Photo 6 is on p23, where is photo 7, & the continuation of the paragraph starting with … ' The collar… The article doesn't continue on pages 24 /25 nor 26.
I have checked in my digital issue & it is as above, article ends on p23 with photo 6… & there is a continuation arrow > .

It looks like there has been a publishing / printing error & the rest of the article must be floating about in the ether. All pages are in numerical order so no missing pages, what give's guys, or is it my eyes … dont know

        George.

            .

It's probably hidden under one of the several instances of the photo of Hopper's fabricated 'VDH'

              Bit of a story…

The designer thought it wouldn't fill 4 pages, so we had a bit of a rearranging as I had enough to make two pages for On the Wire.

It turns out it did fill 4 pages, but when proofing the individual article neither of us noticed that the last page of one would overlap the other.

The final proofing is done online and when zoomed in you only see one page at a time. As the individual articles have been fully checked this is chiefly a sense check to see that we haven't accidentally got repeated pages, missing photos etc. due to an issue with uploading to the printer's server. The scale means it's hard to read without zooming in to each page.

As each page is actually a page from a PDF I've already fully checked errors are rare, in fact, in the last four + years I've never actually come across an error at this stage (other than missing pages).

So, in short, I didn't notice that the last page of gadgets ended up with the first page of On the Wire being uploaded over the top of it.

So, my apologies, it's mea culpa, however, as suggested at the end of the article it will be 'continued' in the next issue.

              Neil

I was very taken with John Olsen's excellent and lucid article on differential indexing and look forward to the next installment.

He has made a potentially confusing and difficult topic to grasp much easier to understand. Hats off Sir

                  Brian
