After months of enquiring, I have finally been told what is SWMBO's 'most wanted' Xmas pressie … and it appears not to exist!!sad The item in question is a :-

      1. Digital

      2. Radio/Alarm

3 Offering DAB, FM, LW (she's completely hooked on TMS cricket commentary)

      4. Light enough to pack for travel and

      5. Battery/mains powered.

Lots of versions which satisfy some/most of those criteria, but NOTHING with them all. sadThis forum's response to queries is becoming legendary but I think this might be beyond even your combined talents. Success won't improve workshop access – just ease my conscience when I (yet again) forgo the delights of Xmas 'entertainment'.

      Any pointers, please???

There may not be a DAB which exists which does LW

          The rest is easy

The only thing I can find is an old Sony, now discontinued. **LINK** though there's a used one on ebay at the moment.

Good luck in your search. I understand your difficulty; last week's birthday present didn't seem to hit the requirements, so fingers crossed for Christmas.

We have a digitech brand available here that does fm/am/lw/sw/dab+ sold by jaycar here in Australia . ( jaycar are an electronic / tech store that sell a bit of everything from components to kits to general electrical products ) you may have a similar style of store there ? The only name i know from the U.K is maplins .

Not much use to you in the U.K i know but have you tried searching for " worlld band radio " ?

If you can't get what you want over there you may try phone apps like my tuner pro or the like as you may get the channels you like through your phone and you can use a bluetooth speaker with it as well .

Or you may have to buy two radios one that looks after the old analogue signals and a separate dab unit , the one really good thing with this is you can get a really good quality analoge unit and a reasonable dab unit for similar money that you will pay for one that does the lot and remember the more they cram into something the more comprimises they have to make on quality especially with the analogue tuning section

I had a look on ebay but couldn't see one there as it filters for local stuff first .

How about a SmartPhone app and a bluetooth speaker ? The app could be a freebee, and speaker from a car boot sale, but you have left it a bit late.

But if you can receive DAB, most areas can now I think, there is no need for LW. TMS is available on DAB.

                    Or am I missing something?

What about an internet radio. Gets hundreds of stations if you've WiFi around the house.

Probably got an alarm., but might not travel too easily!

Try looking for an internet clock radio. Technically speaking it's digital, will have a radio alarm, they do them with FM and you can should be able to get TMS.

                          regards Martin

When I taught overseas the small Sony world radio + alarm was great as it allowed SW reception of BBC World service and worked for weeks off just 4 AA Cells wch could be bought world wide – it met all the requirements inc VHF except for DAB (a little too early) but as the later is only used in UK (DAB+ in a few other countries) and DAB is extremely taxing for battery operation I suspect the market for such would be very small

Gentlemen … Wow!! Marvellous response but you can see the problem!! Ady's link will keep me busy for a while although I'm fairly sure that the DAB/LW combination will defeat me. sad Andy Holdaway's pointer to Tesco looked good until I checked the included functions – no DAB tuner. I'm beginning to think it's going to be chocolates – again … or maybe, just maybe, a nice set of DRO scales would be acceptable???

Roberts and Pure were the first two I looked at, but no LW, though I thought TMS was on DABS+
JL are good to buy from though due to the 2 year warranty.

A few years ago my Wife's old transistor radio started giving bother, it was also hard on PP9 Batteries.

I got her a DAB battery/mains one for that Xmas.

I had some trepidation about that as an Xmas present in case it was regarded as a household type gift (we don't do those), anyway to cut a long story short:- I couldn't have got her a better present (brilliant reaction) it has permanent pride of place in the kitchen tuned to a few of her favourite stations.

Has to be said that she has no interest in cricket though!
