Hi.

I've been given a Alspa VF (model VF 2004A) 230VAC single phase in to 230vAC 3 phase out, but there is no instruction manual with it. Does any one have a copy of the instructions I could buy ? I hope to use this converter for the main motor on my mill ( dual voltage)

The coolant pump on my milling machine has the following information on it:-

3 phase

380/220 volts

.12/.22 amps

what would be a typical value of the capacitor needed to run it from single phase ( I have configured it for DELTA 230 v working) Also what type of capacitor is used ( I've read that an electrolytic is not suitable)

I have tried a 30uF and the motor runs but appears to soon get hot.

Is it not possible to run it off the converter as well as the mill? I thought you could do this with some types of converter.

My suds pumps run from the same lines as the motor, all on 3 phase, Compared with the spindle motor the suds pump goes unnoticed.

Thanks for the replies.

If I have the suds pump working off the converter/inverter the speed will be altered as I vary the spindle speed, also I understand that you should not have any switches/relay contacts between the inverter o/p & motor, therefore the suds pump would be running all the time the spindle motor is running.

Ian,

For your suds pump, a 3-4 uf capacitor should be fine, my 1/8 HP suds pump is running on a 4 uf cap and it never gets hot.

You need a motor run type of capacitor, these are non-polarised. A electrolytic cap is not suitable in this application.

Also ensure that the cap is rated at least 300v. Most run caps are rated at around 450v, certainly nothing less than 250v.

Thanks for that. I've had it running using a 3uf capacitor for 3 hrs & it just gets aired.

A Ian, I assumed you probably had a rotary converter, as you didn't say it was an inverter.

Yes it's my fault by mixing up converter & inverter & confusing people !!
