      Hello there all,

I'm afraid I am here on a begging mission!

I am trying to get hold of some copper and brass shavings for a project I am doing and despite looking every blinking where, I can't find any.

I did notice that there was a thread showing on Google from one of your lovely members who had some shavings and wasn't sure what to do with them and I thought…I would love to help you with disposing of them!! I know I'm cheeky…lol.

Anyway, I thought there was no harm in trying and asking for help – you don't know unless you ask as my old mum used to say.

I would obviously pay for any postage costs – unless somewhere that lives near the Doncaster area – in which case I can pick up no problem at all.

I hope you don't all think I'm being TOO cheeky.

      Kindest regards.
      Debbie

Well I will have by the end of next week, I'm making a series of new brass jib-strips for my mill and lathe and so I'm likely to have fine brass shavings your welcome to any I have and any small brass offcuts if thay are any use.

          Where should I send them?

          Cliff

One other thing (you rpobobly thought of this) go onto Freecycle (**LINK** and ask for any old brass locks and keys, you can always shave them down in the mill.

I'm just guessing but would imagine it was for a art project of somesorts

I have seen a post in the wanted section before asking for swarf for a art project

This will not help Debbie but years ago I had a pattern made for a "SIMPLEX" cylinder and gathered together a huge amount of P bronze swarf and chippings. To much to cast the first of two cylinders I thought – wrong!!

When I cracked the mould box what was there was beautifuly formed but around a 1/4 was missing. I can still look back and see myself crouched in front of a coke fire in the garden with "her" vacuum cleaner blowing up the heat, crash helmet on, visor down………aagh, happy days!

                          Hello,

Does anyone still have any swarf available? I would like some for some steampunk stuff I am currently working on. I'm hoping to give it for Christmas presents, if what I produce is good enough!!

If anyone has any going spare, I would be really grateful and will pay my way!

                          Thanks,

                          Harriet

Debbie, consider looking in a chandler's

Sounds strange I know, but a number of yotties make their own 'copper bot' anti fouling with epoxy resin mixed into copper powder. Don't go into a swish, smart looking chandler's, try the sort where the building looks as if it's on its last legs and services those who are nearly skint. Much more likely to get it there.

                            Regards,

                            Richard

If you want a big lump of bronze, with a bit of stainless shaft attached, there is a bit at the northern end of the South Island of NZ, in Cook Straight, a propeller fell off the inter island ferry the other day, fortunately it is a twin screw ship, and it made it to Wellington under its own power. There might be a bit of a rush for it, it's worth $200000, and it could be up to 9 months until they can get a new one.

                                Thanks for all the replies!

John: Thanks for the tip on the machine shop, I'll have a ring round later and see what I can find. But also, dust would be great! I need it as sort of a 'filler' for a background, so dust would actually be quite useful.

Ian SC: Unfortunately I am nowhere near NZ, but thanks for trying!

So if there's any dust out there, let me know,

                                  If you want fine “dust”..
Try locksmiths. .or where they cut keys. .
