This was prompted by the other thread on lathe dials!
I would like to fit a new dial to my ML7 cross slide so that a setting could be ‘zeroed’ I know a proper Myford dial could be fitted but me being tight has resulted in it not happening!
The dial appears of a very simple design that is crying out for modification into a ‘friction’ type assembly.
Has anyone carried out such a modification?

There are several designs, the earliest that I know of was by GHT in the mid 1970s. Issues 3572 (Nov 1977), 3573, 3574, 3575, 3576. These articles cover micrometer dials for the whole Series 7 lathes.

Alan, as you are feeling tight, send me a PM with your email adress and I will send a drawing to modify the original ML7 dial to a zeroing one!

                Hi Alan

I made myself a set of zeroing dials for my ML7 and my vertical slide.
I am no expert, but I found it quite easy to come up with a design and to make them myself. the only testing part is marking the graduation around the side, but with a little bit of enginuity I managed this using a 100 tooth changewheel and a homemade locating spigot attached to the lathe.

There is a photo in my album, and if you would like any more details pm me and I will try to help you out

                Regards

                    Hi Alan,
I posted a thread on the 17/05 /11 showing a zeroable dial for the ML7 which I designed & made some 8 to 10 years ago. I can only say that this was a nice project embracing all the lathe principles with a milling operation as well. Should you be interasted, can forward machining drawings.

                    Regards Bill.

Your PM omitted email address so drawing is not yet sent.
