Hello All
I have been referred to these forums by a man with a lathe, who frequents a car forum I hangout in.. Sometimes.
I am looking to get a number of these plasticmetal cogs made up in brass,
either by machining or casting.

(I have one for the template. They are about 1.5" by 1" ish)
Does anyone have or know someone with the expertises to do this?
If so, can have a chat about pricenumbers etc
Please Post up or PM me. :thumbleft:
Cheers
Win

Hello Win,

A picture would help to get some idea of what you're asking for. I tried the url you posted, it's just a copy of this post. Without guidance none of us can help.

Brian

@1

Win, I have seen requests such as yours on here in the past and the impression I get from previous responses is that the people on here, like me, are mostly hobbyists (emphasize "mostly" for the benefit of John Stevenson, who I hope will not take offence at my dig!). Although there may be many who are capable of producing what you need we prefer to spend our time, that most valuable of assets, pursuing our hobby not manufacturing what look to me like car speedo drives.

Maybe some kind soul will help you out but it isn't going to be me and I suspect your best option is to approach a commercial small engineering company. Best of luck.

Jim

Most of us on this forum have the expertise but as Jim says our time in our workshops are precious
and not for manufacturing components. Try one of the CNC forums you may get some help there. My apologies for being so negative, and good luck in your search.

An in-focus picture would help. It's not clear if the gears are worm wheels or helical gears. Either way any manufacturer would need details of said gears.

I have question related to moderating procedures etc.

I can understand the need to remove OT posts but as a matter of interest do you send a message to the poster to say why they have been removed?

If not, the poster (not me in this case) will be oblivious as to what is unacceptable.

If you edited the errant post and left out the rude words or whatever it would maintain the continuity of the thread and give an indication to the rest of us as to what is, and what is not, likely to be edited in future.

Ian

Hi Ian

The posters who have had their text removed know who they are and why. One was the offender and the other was a reply, which, whilst perfectly valid, would cease to make sense once the offening post had been removed. The continuity of the thread has been preserved by removing them.

In most cases, yes, I would just edit out unacceptable language, etc. When a post is removed completely the poster is informed and the reasons given.

Please bear in mind that this forum can not be moderated 24/7. Therefore, continuity will be compromised at times.

Diane

Hi Diane Very many threads go of topic and i am sure most members quite like the diversion.

If you are to delete every post that goes OT then what happend to the thread "when is a precision vice not a precision vice" because that thread ended up as a discusion on aircraft !!!!

Cheers Derek.

I think Diane made the right decision. What was said did not need to be said in public, an e-mail to her would have been far better.

Suggest anyone else who wants to talk about moderation etc starts a new thread rather that take this one off track again.

I'm perfectly happy with Diane's desision, and the reply she gave to my question.

Did you mean its OK for me to discuss moderation in this thread but anyone else should start a new one?smiley
