Dug this out of a box of bits yesterday whilst boot buying. It's 3.25" OD and .625" wide, has been fettled (well), machined and is made from cast iron. A "V" has been turned on the OD to take a drive belt.

I think this is a beautifully proportioned and elegant little flywheel which I plan to build something around in the future. However, in the meantime if anyone recognizes the design and has an idea for which model it was intended I'd enjoy being enlightened.

That's pretty close to Stuart No. 7A size – (one of my early attempts!) Have a look HERE and HERE

Thanks for that Norman. Have had a look at your links but this little casting has spokes that are more slender than the 7A which is why I like it so much. I hope to do it justice in the not to distant future, in the meantime I appreciate your input.

Made myself a mini depth gauge with a rod dia of 3.2mm as some drilled holes are smaller than the vernier depth gauge blade width…

            Another useful bit of kit.

Last night I had an uexpected guitar lesson. The guitar felt heavier than usual.

I found a foot of 3/4" BMS in the front pocket…

P.S. just battled the 9-month old Lab pup over THIS. It's two weeks old and so far it's ripped off the label and the black trim has gone fluffy. This one has been caught chewing a cast iron drain cover, normally soft toys last hours, not days…

Decided it was time to set up the cheapo bench drill as I have some holes to drill in the aluminium frame for the garage door, was not expecting too much and was not disappointed, cheap and cheerful.

Our 7 month old Cocker puppy destroys most soft dog toys some mange to last a few hours most fail in less than 1/2 hour, even tennis balls get de furred. We have found children's toys last much longer and one fluffy toy has lasted most of the puppies life intact, so far. I think the rules for children's toys are probably higher than dog toys.

Many years have passed since the last time we had a dog, but some of our furniture still bears the signs of it's activities as a puppy.

Bob – WARNING – soft toys intended for children are not considered safe for dogs, there are flame and mite retardants in the polyfil stuffing and the stuffing if ingested by the dog, can turn into a gel and cause obstructions or be highly toxic in this form. I have come across several instances of this nature in past years and unfortunately the affected animal rarely survives.

Childrens toy manufacturers do not envisage a small child ingesting the stuffing from a toy, and usually attach warnings that if the stuffing becomes exposed, the toy should be discarded.

Our 1yr old springer-lab cross de-furrs tennis balls, I had to retrieve a large ball of tennis ball fluff from her throat a few days ago and now does not get a ball unsupervised, she sounded like a cat with a furball!!

After the first lab I learned to wait until they are 18 months before repairing all but the most visible damage. These things eat chairs, kitchen units, walls… I used to get stressed about the cat scratching on the wallpaper :-/

You are lucky, dogs grow out of chewing things to destruction. I have an African Gey Parrot, likely to live to about 80 years, and will chew anything he can get his beak on until the day he drops off the perch. Mind you he is amusing when he has a conversation with you

Do not think anything toxic is allowed in children's toys, children also chew toys!

But as with all things be they children or dogs care needs to be the order of the day.

Dogs eat all sorts of stuff some not what we consider pleasant, horse muck, cat poop, dirt, etc and their digestive systems are in the main quite robust and all things will come to pass.

I was very impressed with the sand blasted finish obtained by Vic on his diamond tool holder in this thread, I got an idea about adapting my spare air brush or to manufacture one as an eraser or mini media blaster.

I haven't used my air kit for some 5 years or so and checking it today I found my compressor has a hole in the main air chamber/tank. After switching it on it seemed ok, but a few seconds after it started spraying rusty water over the floor through a hole in the paintwork. It was drained when I last used it. It's a Clarke Shhh 2/9 model.

I suppose there's nothing I can do to fix a pressure chamber that has lost it's structural integrity so to speak? the motor and other parts seem ok. I wonder if I could get a replacement tank.

                                    Ed,

Several years ago I bought an old stock new truck air brake tank which I use to increase my volume of compressed air, the threads for fixtures and fittings are the same so no problem connecting up.

Neil, if your puppy chews up a cast iron drain cover in a couple of days, it's going to be a real handful when it grows up.
My in laws had a terrier, they used to buy it squeaking vinyl toys as a treat, took him about a minute to chew the squeaker out. They moved to a house in the country, the neighbour kept chickens, one of the chickens made the mistake of squeaking.

I have been assembling Christmas Trees today, then putting lights etc on them.

Tangled wires in boxes, lights that worked when I tested them but not on the tree, ornaments that were Broken in their boxes, had to go out for a while then found the wife quietly re-arranging it all when I came back.

                                                  Dave,

Labs are retriever stock so they have the 'grab' instinct but not the 'kill' one, makes them (usually) very safe around kids and pets (we have cats and the dogs will hang back when the cat is eating from their bowl!) Our older Lab grew out of chewing at 12 months – the worst bit is having to wait for it to stop before you can repair banisters, walls, doors etd. etc. Things like remote controls just go in the bin. She and my stepson's Staffy are both good as gold with kids.

The younger one is boistrous, but slowly calming down. She had the plug off the fridge today, The chew-stop must have worn off, luckily she pulled it out of the socket before chomping the wire clean through. She has an amazing bite – several leads, collars and two seat belts, all gone with one >chomp< and you can almost loft her off the ground when she has her teeth into a toy. I think the pedigree lies and she's 50% Pit Bull.

                                                  Neil

P.S. Would never leave any dog alone with an infant though.

                                                    You are right Neil

We've owned Staffies for 30 years ( my Avtar is our latest!) and they are the most affectionate and amusing of dogs. Ours loves people – she eagerly awaits any visitor and likes nothing better than pinning them down in the chair and licking their ears! Other dogs? – well Staffies are not aggressive but they will generally accept any challenge and will usually come out on top. They do have a very strong bite and it is quite possible to have a "tug of war" with a Staffie and you can lift them right off the ground where they will then continue to jerk their body to pull on the rope! ( Whilst growling in the most ferocious and fearsome way) They do have a good reputation with children and were known as the "Nanny dog"

As far as being bitten by a dog though I treat all dogs with respect but I would be more wary of a Collie ( and a Chihuahua! ) than a Staffie.

Quite right though never leave an infant alone with any dog.
